Medicine Educational Program

Curriculum 2010-1

Introduction

The Mexicali Medical School with the firm purpose of fulfilling its mission of integrally training doctors and postgraduates, with scientific, humanistic and ethical competencies to seek the bio-psycho-social well-being of the individual and of society through prevention, healing, rehabilitation and research, is given the task of regularly updating the educational programs of its competence.

At the undergraduate level, it currently offers a comprehensive study plan that grants the medical degree and is effective as of 2010-1. It is designed according to the educational model of the Autonomous University of Baja California, which promotes Student-centered learning,under a focus on competencies, flexible, by credits that is made up of learning units located according to the principles of continuity, integration, transfer and gradual training, organized in three stages of training: Basic, Disciplinary and Final, the latter represents the rotating undergraduate internship.

To accredit the medical career, 552 mandatory credits must be covered, as well as a minimum of 43 elective credits that can be obtained through various accreditation modalities, a clinical skills and abilities examination, one year of Social Service, the CENEVAL exam and having a second language.

Graduate Profile

The graduate of the UABC Medical educational program must exercise the following competencies within the scope of the health sector:

  1. Apply the basic structural and functional elements of the human being and his environment through methodological and scientific structures to move to the disciplines of health sciences, with humanism and an ethical sense.

  2. Solve the more frequent health problems in the population, to prevent, restore and preserve the health of the individual through the application of the clinical method, adhering to compliance with health legislation and regulations with responsibility and empathy.

  3. Evaluate the priority diseases risk factors in patients to prevent them and, where appropriate, detect and treat in a timely manner through the application of the clinical method and with adherence to priority health programs, considering available resources and technological advances of the field, with responsibility and respect.

  4. Promote a suitable environment through the application of policies and strategies to establish a good relationship between doctors, patients, family and health personnel with empathy and respect.

  5. Solve medical emergencies through the standardized management of validated techniques and procedures with skill and dexterity to preserve life, organs and functions, with responsibility.

Requirements to Obtain Academic Degree

To obtain the title of Physician, the student must meet the following requirements:

  1. Must complete mandatory and optional academic credits from the Study Plan (Curriculum).
  2. Complete mandatory Professional Social Service.
  3. Accredit 5th level of English language.
  4. Proof of having taken the EGEL-CENEVAL exam.

Ocupational Field

Graduates of the Medical career will be trained to participate in comprehensive medical care of individual, family and community health, particularly in the first level of care focused on health promotion, prevention and outpatient treatment of the more common diseases.

The professional activities could be carried out in:

  • Hospitals and clinics of public institutions (IMSS, ISESALUD, ISSSTECALI and ISSSTE)
  • Private hospitals and sanatoriums
  • Private offices
  • The domicile of patients from urban and rural communities
  • Manufacturing Industry and services
  • Educational Institutions and Research Centers
